Subject Matter: Is the subject interesting? Does it demonstrate a unique way of seeing the world? Is there a clear subject/center of interest? In the Theme category, the theme must be clearly evident. Composition: Does it bring our attention to the point of primary interest? Does it take advantage of elements in the scene and/or successfully hide or minimize unwanted elements Technical: Focus, D.O.F., Shutter Speed, Lighting and Exposure are executed in a manner that is effective.
I've only been to Sydney on business. It's a great place to start since most international flights land there - a very young place (populationwise). If you are an urbanite, that will suit you, but if you are more inclined to go the great outdoors, then you perhaps will want to spend more time outside of the city. It's a big place so be prepared to spend time driving or flying. First time around, I would look up stuff on Google and tour sites. I'm sure you'll find lots of info. Ayres Rock and the Great Barrier Reef are always popular tourist spots. If you don't mind going to tourist spots that is....

Currently we don't have any guidelines on photographing each other, but you may well be advised to have anyone you photograph to sign a model release. That sounds a bit onerous, and I'm sure that it's not always needed. If you're in a public place, you may be able to get away with it (Surrey Photography Club isn't a public place though!). If you post something for non-gain, and it doesn't in any way defame the person, I'm sure you'll be OK.
